There are many descriptions that refer to a fake sms text message, with the most common being fake sms, spoof sms and prank sms. To keep things simple, I’ll refer to this as a ‘fake sms’.
A fake sms message is where you send a sms text message that appears from someone else’s cellphone number, or a name of up to 11 characters. You can send one of your friends a text message from someone else, and your friend will think it’s from the person you entered the sender id as. This is great fun as the person who’s received the message will have no idea that the message didn’t get sent from the number you entered. When the person replies to the fake sms they’ve received, their reply will actually go to the person you entered as the sender!
If you send a fake sms and enter the sender id as a name instead of an actual mobile phone number, the message received on your friends phone will appear from whoever’s name you put as the sender.
